Tuna Mornay

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of lemon pepper tuna

  • 1 litre of milk

  • 5 potatoes, sliced

Pantry staples:

  • 1 tablespoon of flour

  • 1 tablespoon of margarine or butter

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  • Melt the butter and flour in a saucepan over a medium heat and stir constantly to form a thick mixture. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes to cook off the flour.

  • Slowly add the milk a little at a time, stirring well after each addition to keep the sauce smooth.

  • Continue adding milk until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

  • Add the tuna and mix well and season with salt and plenty of pepper to taste.

  • Layer the sliced potatoes in a baking dish and pour the tuna sauce over the top.

  • Cover with foil and bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 30 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked through. Check by piercing with a fork.

  • Once cooked, remove foil and broil until the top is golden.

  • Serving alternative: you can also serve this with some cooked rice instead of potatoes, which is just as good.
